A beautiful hamlet : Lakhwar, Uttrakhand

Explore the unexplored

sunny 6 °C

Travelling to unexplored places has always been my cup of tea rather than marching to a place with surfeit of tourists. Isn't travelling to a place which is not shown in Google's best results, a different kind of fun? Because it's all about exploring new things, meeting the natives and learning something totally different.

My Visit:

Lakhwar is a small village in the north western Uttrakhand. Being situated on the hill top the place is not connected with well built road network but there trails which lead us to the way. Around 322 kms away from the National Capital Delhi, this place can be reached by bus in around 8 hours. In my two nights stay the place I took accomodation in one of the houses in the village and they offered dine with family members at the early time of 1800hours. The houses there were of both wooden and bricks. I went to see stunning sunrise and sunset, visited the temple, orchards and even did bird watching in the morning. Yet, the best of all was the interaction with the natives. They speak Hindi and few even understand English.

What I learnt:

Beautiful mesmerising valleys are seen from the place rendering a huge scope for landscape photography. The population of the village is in hundreds as the told that most the people have migrated to the urban areas due to lack of facilities like higher education, health care and business here. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people there and mainly grows oilseeds and maize.
People are not used to see tourists much because of the geography of the place. Yet, the seem to show good hospitality. What makes Lakhwar sacrosanct is that places like these are where people still follow the age old traditions. People here use traditional practices of cooking food, sowing seeds and celebrating festivals. They are aware of the technological advancements in the outside world but refrain themselves from it. They say we are still the breed who limits our needs and cherish our natural surroundings. IMG_20210203_125444.jpg
